This series of 6 talks covers the first four chapters of Sean Kehoe’s Book 7, “The world, the flesh and the devil”. He had intended to produce an audio series covering the whole book, but sadly he did not live long enough to do so.
Sean starts by stating that all Christians, whether they like it or not, are involved in three lifelong battles – against the world system, the flesh (or the old man) and the devil (or demons). Furthermore, these three battles are all interconnected and cannot be viewed in isolation.
Sean then goes on to discuss what the flesh is, and how we can set out to win that battle. For most people, defeating the flesh is probably their biggest challenge, though many of us do not recognise this battle at all.
Finally, Sean talks about how the old man and the new man operate, and how they interact with our mind, will, emotions and body – all parts of us that make up “me”. He uses various analogies to explain these ideas and the battles between them. In particular, he uses the analogy of a committee, having a meeting and hearing views from each member around the table, before the chairman (the will) makes the decision. If we grasp how the different parts of our personality function together, that helps us to ensure that the will makes the right decisions.
